A Goodly Heritage

Never say that riches belong to Satan.  He did not create them , and therefore they do not belong to him. No , he cannot create an atom , nor can any mere angel , wise and mighty though he may be . True , when tempting Jesus in the wilderness , the devil offered to give him all the kingdoms of the world , and the glory of them , if he would fall down and worship him ; but he said also that they were in a certain sense delivered unto him , not that they were his by right. "Whosoever", says Christ , "shall confess me before men , him will I confess before my Father and His holy angels." But wherein must we do this ? By doing those things which he saith, and keeping His commandments , by worshipping Him not only with our lips , but with all our mind , and soul , and strength. Clement of Alexandria.

We have a faithful God ; but let us distinguish faithful God from faithful man. Man is faithful when he trusts in God promising ; God is faithful because he performs that which he promised to man. Let us hold him a debtor most faithful, sijnce we hold him a promiser most merciful and sure.__Augustine
